Problem Solving Fun

Professional Maturity

No Problem

No Problem

Published by Authorhouse

It turns out that the biggest challenge in solving a problem is often simply defining the problem.  Once defined, different problems require different thinking styles.

This workshop teaches the three different types of problems people encounter and provides tangible skills for working through them efficiently an enjoyably.

Exercise Overview

1 Lecture (10 minutes)   |   “The Attitude”

A recap of the article, as well as a brief discussion on how attitude plays a huge role in solving problems.  Some people just like to complain.  But they never solve their problems.

2 Solo Exercise (15 mins)  |  “Triaging the Problem”

Removing emotion from a problem is the first step in solving it.  This exercise teaches a process for evaluating the severity of a problem, and what people, skills and tools are most likely required to solve it.

3 Group Exercise (20 minutes)   |   “Working through Dilemmas”

In this exercise we tackle the most difficult type of problem to solve, dilemmas. Dilemmas are trade offs, where no one solution is completely satisfactory.  We look at the “two by two matrix” as a tool for evaluating best options and realistic outcomes for each.

4 Wrap Up (5 minutes)   |  “Removing Roadblocks”

Back to attitude, realizing that many of the things holding us back from solving problems are attitude based.

Key Deliverables

Staff members completing this workshop will be able to solve dilemmas.  A dilemma, by definition, is the most complex and uncertain type of problem, which is why most people need a set of tools to manage them.

This 50 minute workshop requires no additional materials beyond the standard Pen, Paper, Whiteboard and Markers.  This is a stand alone workshop, and no additional followup work is required.
