The Chipping Process (The Angel Inside)
Entrepreneurial Thinking
The Angel Inside
Published by Broadway Business
The Angel Inside is framed around the story of Michelangelo carving The David and the incredible 28 months he took to complete it. Using this story as a backdrop, you will guide your team members through the process of identifying their own “masterpiece”… and foster an understanding of how long it can take to achieve greatness.
The overall focus of this session is “Accepting Change” in the Entrepreneurial Thinking category. Understanding what you’re working towards (and why) makes it significantly easier to accept and manage change.
Exercise Overview
1 Lecture Based (10 minutes) | “Lessons from 500 Year old Art”
An overview and discussion of The Angel Inside, and the two core themes of the book: Defining Purpose, and how to achieve that purpose through Excellence.
2 Solo Exercise (15 minutes) | “Masterpieces Take Time”
This exercise turns “defining purpose” (aka “Your masterpiece”) into a solo activity. The idea here is to help your team members define and connect with the mark they want to leave on the world through their professional pursuits.
3 Solo Exercise & Discussion (20 minutes) | “Embracing the Chipping Process”
In this exercise we look at the people that play a positive role in helping each team member achieve their masterpiece; both people that they know, and people that they aspire to emulate.
4 Wrap Up Discussion (10 minutes) | “A life Worth Living”
As a final wrap up, your team will be asked to commit to excellence for a single activity within the next week. With this singular focus, they will be able to experience the difference that 100% commitment makes to any activity.
Key Deliverables
Staff members completing this workshop will understand the importance of change as it pertains to achieving greatness, and will have a clearer sense of what it is that they are trying to accomplish, long term. As an end result, you should see them more committed to their work and development.
This 55 minute workshop requires no additional materials beyond the standard Pen, Paper, Whiteboard and Markers.
